I am very excited to be a part of the Bill Roberts family. I am a Denver native, and a graduate of both the University of Colorado, Boulder (B.A. in Chemistry, Minor in Mathematics) and the University of Denver (M.A. in Education Leadership). I have a wealth of experience with students ranging from kindergarten through high school. I have taught math, science, language arts, physical education, and was Dean of Students. I have taught in Aurora Public Schools and was a dean of students in Cherry Creek Public Schools, and I am excited to come back to the Denver Public Schools from where I graduated.
In math, much of what we do is critical thinking and problem solving. This will be done using the Connected Math program for 7th and 8th grade along with supplementary materials. 7th Grade will be learning to problem solve during the following units: Similarity, Ratios, Integers, Linear Relationships, 3D Measurement, Probability and Data. 8th Grade will be learning to problem solve during the following units: Linear and Exponential Relationships, Linear Equations, Transformations, Pythagorean Theorem, Systems of Equations and Inequalities, and Quadratic Functions. There will be many opportunities for enrichment; two examples are unit projects and our “Window Of Opportunity”.
Grading is based on the standards set by the district. The grade is given on a 1-4 scale. 1 shows unsatisfactory, 2 is partially proficient, 3 is proficient (at grade level), and 4 shows advanced (the student is performing higher than grade level). Letter grades will be given based on traditional percentages (100-90 A; 89-80 B; 79-70 C; 69-60 D; below 60 is F.) Included in the grade will be unit tests, weekly quizzes, homework, and classwork. Homework will be given at least two times per week (writing down homework in their student planner will be the exit ticket at the end of class), and quizzes will be given on Friday to check for the students’ weekly understanding of the material. Progress reports will be sent home every six weeks, and every twelve weeks will be final report card grades. You can check your student’s daily progress on infinite campus: Parent portal: https://campus.dpsk12.org/campus/portal/icprod.jsp
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions. The best way to do so is through email: [email protected].

If you have time to whine and complain about something then you have the time to do something about it. --Anthony J. D'Angelo
We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn. --Peter Drucker
The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. --Helen Keller
If you think there's a problem in the world, you don't wait for other people to fix it. You have to try to fix it yourself. --Jack Davis, age 11
It does not seem to be true that work necessarily needs to be unpleasant. It may always have to be hard, or at least harder than doing nothing at all. But there is ample evidence that work can be enjoyable, and that indeed, it is often the most enjoyable part of life. --Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Long after a deed is done, the trace or momentum of the intention left behind it remains as a seed, conditioning our future happiness or unhappiness. --Gil Fronsdal
